At
first there was the Flying Mole which was a compact digital amplifier
boasting a tongue in cheek 100W, this little class d amplifier was
well received by the Hi-Fi enthusiast and was even used in the PMC
DB1s active monitor. Time and technology has moved on and B.K. Electronics
now offers a digital amplifier in the same footprint as the Flying
Mole but offering a true 90W RMS per channel into 4 ohms and 180W
RMS bridged into 8 Ohms (Monoblock)
The
Pear Drop is a state of the art class D amplifier based on a phase
shift modulated topology with advanced protection circuitry that
is both compact and lightweight yet it delivers clean and powerful
Hi-Fi quality audio. The switch mode power supply and class D amplifier
have been designed to work in synergy to produce an effortless low
distortion signal.
The
Pear Drop has built in over current protection which has two modes.
During transients into the current limit threshold it allows constant
output current but if this condition persists it goes into burst
mode. This guarantees that the amplifier does not create audio holes
during heavy listening but still effectively protects it during
short circuiting.
The
thermal protection sensor is connected to the tab of one of the
output devices giving a very fast detection and shut down should
over-load occur.
